A SMALL FAMILY BUSINESS IN A REMARKABLE PLACE
We are a small local family caring for the Mud Bath at Hveradalir. Hot springs feed our pots with mineral-rich water and fine volcanic clay from beneath the valley. Our aim is a simple, welcoming encounter with Icelandic nature.
Bathing is free, and trust is part of the experience. Shower first, care for the surroundings, and leave the baths clean for the next guest.
GEOTHERMAL BATHING THROUGH GENERATIONS
A steam bathhouse opened beside the ski lodge in 1938, drawing heat directly from the ground. Newspaper reports explored the idea of a future health retreat here. Clay bathing at the lodge followed in 1954.
That early curiosity still feels close: warm water, volcanic clay, fresh Icelandic air, and a little time to slow down.

Our geothermal mud has undergone laboratory analysis of its composition. The bathing ritual brings together mineral-rich clay, naturally warm water, and the feel of a landscape unlike any other.
Weather, underground pressure and geothermal activity can change conditions and water temperatures. This is a living place; check the information at the baths and follow on-site guidance.
CARING FOR A LIVING VOLCANIC VALLEY
Hveradalir sits within the Hengill volcanic system, close to Reykjavík. Heat, steam, sulphur deposits and mineral-bearing water continually shape this remarkable terrain.
We improve the facilities gradually, respecting the fragile ground as we go. New changing facilities for Mud Bath guests and good WC facilities for all visitors bring more comfort to the experience.
