Hellisheiði Power Plant sits in the Hengill geothermal region, just a short journey from Hveradalir. It uses heat from beneath the volcanic landscape to produce electricity and hot water, making the surrounding hills part of everyday life far beyond the mountain.

Inside the Geothermal Exhibition, displays and science communicators introduce the plant, the geology behind geothermal energy and the ways Iceland puts natural heat to use. It gives the steam outside a new meaning: the same force that warms a bath also helps power homes and communities.

The exhibition also introduces innovation in the area, including carbon-storage projects. Specialist Carbfix visits are a separate guided offering, so check which experience is included in your chosen ticket. Views across the lava fields and mountains add a strong sense of place to the visit.
