Litla Kaffistofan is a familiar landmark beside Route 1, west of Hellisheiði and close to Hveradalir. Generations of travellers have known it as a roadside stop between Reykjavík and South Iceland. Today, Icelandia uses the historic building as a base for outdoor adventures in the surrounding volcanic landscape.
From here, guided ATV journeys lead into lava fields and mountain valleys. The Volcano Valley tour explores Svínahraun and Jósepsdalur, with views towards the Hengill region and Vífilsfell. Icelandia also uses the base for northern lights excursions during the dark season.
The Volcano Valley ATV itinerary includes a stop at Hveradalir, bringing visitors close to steaming vents, mineral colours and bubbling mud pools. It is a way to discover the wider landscape with a guide, then make your own time for the warmth of the Mud Bath.
